Gelpi Retractor is a standard pattern that features two blades that are hinged in the middle of the instrument. The ring-handle design also includes a ratchet that is able to control the spread of the blades and lock them in place. These blades have tips that are turned sideways at right angles. In this way, small incisions can be held apart during surgeries such as orthopedic or spine operations.
